Actor
The most public face of the fim industry, actors loom larger than life to the general public. But these are usually the speaking or ‘hero’ roles. The leads. There are many other actors, the extras and non speaking parts, motion capture actors, voice over artists and stunt doubles. On large films the actors often are but a very small part of the entire film, after the sets have been designed and built, the script finalized, the costumes made, the locations scouted and secured, the set lit and prepared by the DOP and gaffer then the actors step on stage and perform the role. This said the failure or success of a film can rest on the quality of performance of the actor in a way not so critical for other film jobs where mistakes can be hidden or fixed in post production.
Actors need to be absolutely committed to their craft and comfortable doing theor job in front of many other people. When just starting out acting work is typically intermittent and very diffcult to break into, this is why you need real passion for the job. At the other end of the scale, if you ‘make it’ as a big name actor the rewards are great and you will be able to earn large amounts whilst on the job which will cover your down time between jobs.
